The Internet has leveled the business playing field by allowing access to the global marketplace.  Many businesses that would not otherwise be able to reach an international market have found success via the World Wide Web. This success does not come without its own hurdles, however.  A fully functional website is an absolute necessity in today's business landscape.  It is a very important  tool enabling businesses not only to reach but also expand their target markets.  With efficient utilization of various online tools, businesses have built a demand for online business and consumers can't seem to get enough.  This demand has provided for online marketing opportunities of which successful businesses have already begun taking advantage.

Like traditional marketing techniques, it can be like trying to navigate a minefield when it comes to figuring out which ways to get your target consumer to find you.  It is no different when developing an online targeted email marketing strategy.  First, you need to identify who your target is…what are your demographics.  Demographics consist of answering questions about your target consumer such as age, race, religion, income, where they live, what type of home they live in - rent or own, education, etc.  These questions are essential to developing an effective campaign.

But, let's assume you have answered these questions, your virtual business is in place, and perhaps you have even had some success with online sales. The next step is to evaluate all of your marketing options in an effort to grow your business and/or maintain contact with current customers.
